My Dear Parishioners,
In this week’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that the Kingdom of Heaven is the greatest treasure we can ever discover. Through the images of the hidden treasure and the pearl of great price, Jesus shows us the immense value of knowing and following him. When we truly recognise the treasure of God’s love, it changes the way we see our lives and our priorities.
The person who discovers the treasure and the merchant who finds the pearl respond with great joy. They are willing to give up everything because they have found something of far greater value. Jesus invites us to consider what truly matters in our own lives. Do we recognise the gift of faith, the love of God and the hope found in the Gospel as treasures worth cherishing?
Following Jesus does not mean that life will always be easy, but it does give our lives direction and purpose. At times, we may need to let go of attitudes, priorities or distractions that prevent us from living more fully as his disciples. The joy of the Kingdom is worth the sacrifice.
The image of the dragnet reminds us that God’s Kingdom gathers everyone, and that our lives are ultimately shaped by the choices we make. As disciples, we are called to choose goodness, love and faithfulness each day. Like the scribe who brings out treasures both new and old, may we value the wisdom of our faith while remaining open to the new ways God continues to work in our lives and in our community.
This weekend we celebrate our grandparents and elderly parishioners. They are truly the heart of our parish, and we want to acknowledge and give thanks for the wisdom, faith, love and experience they share with our parish community. Through their prayers, support, encouragement and faithful presence, they continue to enrich the life of our parish and inspire generations that follow. We are grateful for all that they have given and continue to give, and we pray that they know how valued, loved and appreciated they are within our parish family.
On Wednesday 29 evening from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, we warmly welcome parents to an information session in the OLGC Church as their children begin the next stage of their Sacramental journey. We look forward to accompanying these families as they take this important step in their children’s faith, beginning with the Sacrament of Confirmation in early September.
We look forward to celebrating our Parish Multicultural Celebration on Sunday, 16 August, following the 10:00am Mass at OLGC. This special event is a wonderful opportunity to come together, share our diverse cultures, and celebrate the richness of our parish community. If you would like to volunteer to prepare and share food from your cultural heritage, please contact the parish office.
We are always here for our parish family. If you would welcome a pastoral visit from a priest, please reach out to the parish office and we will be glad to arrange it.
