from Fr Satheesh

My Dear Parishioners,

This week we celebrate the sixteenth Sunday in ordinary time. The readings tell us about a very patient and compassionate God Who is hopeful that the so-called “weeds” among us will be converted, and that we should not be in a hurry to eliminate such elements from the Church, or society, or the family, on the basis of hasty judgment.

In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us that the Kingdom of God grows in the midst of an imperfect world. The parable of the wheat and the weeds acknowledges a reality we all experience, goodness and evil exist side by side. There are times when we wish God would simply remove all that is wrong, yet Jesus teaches patience. God sees the whole picture, and in His wisdom, He allows time for growth, healing, repentance, and transformation. We are called not to spend our lives judging others, but to focus on becoming the good wheat that bears fruit through lives of faith, hope, and love.

The parables of the mustard seed and the yeast offer a message of great encouragement. God's Kingdom often begins in ways that seem small and insignificant, a simple act of kindness, a quiet prayer, an invitation to Mass, a word of forgiveness, or a helping hand to someone in need. Yet these small acts, offered with love, have the power to transform hearts, families, and communities. Just as a tiny mustard seed becomes a great tree and a little yeast leavens the whole dough, God's grace quietly works within us and through us, often in ways we cannot immediately see.

This Gospel is an invitation to trust in God's timing and His plan. Rather than becoming discouraged by the brokenness we see around us, we are called to keep sowing seeds of goodness, trusting that God will bring about the harvest in His own time. May we be people who nurture faith, encourage hope, and spread Christ's love wherever we are, confident that even the smallest seed planted in God's name can bear abundant fruit for His Kingdom.

We look forward to celebrating our Parish Multicultural Celebration on Sunday, 16 August, following the 10:00am Mass at OLGC. This special event is a wonderful opportunity to come together, share our diverse cultures, and celebrate the richness of our parish community. If you would like to be part of the organising committee or volunteer to prepare and share food from your cultural heritage, please contact the parish office.

Please save the date in your calendar. We warmly invite and encourage the participation and cooperation of all our cultural communities to make this a joyful and memorable celebration for everyone.

We warmly invite you and your children to join our Children's Liturgy, celebrated every Sunday during the 10:00 a.m. Mass at OLGC. We encourage you to bring your children and be part of this special ministry each Sunday. We look forward to welcoming your family as we journey together in faith.

As always, our priests are here for you and if you or someone you know would like a pastoral visit please do not hesitate to call the parish office.

God Bless you all.
Fr Satheesh Antony OSH, PP.
