from Fr Satheesh

My Dear Parishioners,

This week readings are about the transforming power of the word of God when read, preached, and lived. They also warn us not to be disappointed at the absence of immediate results. We must take a positive and optimistic view of our missionary efforts, as we keep on bearing witness to Christ’s Gospel.

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus tells the familiar parable of the sower, reminding us that God's word is like seed generously scattered across every kind of ground. The sower does not limit where he sows. He gives every seed the opportunity to grow, just as God offers his love, mercy, and invitation to every person without exception.

The different types of soil represent the different ways we receive God's word. At times, our hearts can become hard through disappointment or indifference. Sometimes we welcome God's word with enthusiasm, but when challenges arise, our faith struggles to take deep root. At other times, the worries of daily life, the pressures of work and family, or the desire for material things can crowd out the presence of God, preventing his word from flourishing.

Yet Jesus also offers us great hope. The good soil is not a perfect heart but a heart that is open, willing to listen, and prepared to be transformed. As we spend time in prayer, celebrate the sacraments, read Scripture, and seek to live with kindness and compassion, we allow God's word to take deeper root within us. Over time, that seed grows quietly, shaping the way we think, speak, and act.

This Gospel also reminds us that the fruit God asks of us is seen in our daily lives, in acts of love, forgiveness, generosity, patience, and service. Even the smallest response to God's grace can produce a harvest far greater than we could imagine.

May we ask the Lord to prepare our hearts to be rich soil, open to his word and willing to live it each day. As we do, may our lives bear abundant fruit, bringing hope and the love of Christ to our families, our parish, and all those we encounter. The parable reminds us that man’s reception of God’s Word is determined by the condition of his heart. Hence, let us always prepare our hearts when we listen or read the word of God in our lives.

Thank you once again for your generous contribution to the Vinnies Winter Appeal and Peter’s Pence collection.

We look forward to celebrating our Parish Multicultural Celebration on Sunday, 16 August, following the 10:00am Mass at OLGC. This special event is a wonderful opportunity to come together, share our diverse cultures, and celebrate the richness of our parish community. If you would like to be part of the organising committee or volunteer to prepare and share food from your cultural heritage, please contact the parish office.

Please save the date in your calendar. We warmly invite and encourage the participation and cooperation of all our cultural communities to make this a joyful and memorable celebration for everyone.

As always, our priests are here for you and if you or someone you know would like a pastoral visit please do not hesitate to call the parish office.

God Bless you all.
