from Fr Satheesh
Dear Parishioners,
As we head back into the Ordinary Time of the church’s liturgical year, we give thanks for the wonderful liturgical celebrations we have had for feast days for the past few weeks.
In this Gospel, Jesus looks upon the crowds with compassion because they are like sheep without a shepherd." His heart is moved by the suffering, confusion, and spiritual needs of the people. Rather than turning away, He responds with love and calls His disciples to help in His mission. Jesus reminds them that "the harvest is rich but the labourers are few," encouraging them to pray for more people who are willing to serve God and care for others.
Jesus then gives His disciples the authority to heal the sick and proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. What is striking is that He chooses ordinary people with different backgrounds and weaknesses to carry out this mission. This reminds us that God does not call only the perfect or the most talented; He calls those who are willing to trust Him and serve others.
This Gospel invites us to reflect on how we respond to the needs of people around us. Many today feel lost, lonely, or burdened by difficulties. Like the disciples, we are called to bring God's love, hope, and compassion to them through our words and actions. Jesus also reminds us, "You received without charge, give without charge." The gifts, blessings, and faith we have received from God are not meant to be kept for ourselves but shared generously with others. By showing kindness, offering encouragement, and serving those in need, we become part of Christ's work in the world and help others experience His healing presence.
We are excited to look ahead at some important events that are happening in our parish. We look forward to our seniors gathering for the Biggest Morning Tea on Wednesday 24th June. This is a great opportunity to connect with others and celebrate the community we have. More details are in the bulletin.
On Saturday, 20 June, we will celebrate the Sacrament of First Holy Communion with our parish children. There will be three Communion Masses: 9.30am and 11.30am at OLGC, and 5.00pm at St Martin’s, Davidson. As a result, there will be no 9.15am morning Mass at OLGC on that day. Parishioners are welcome to attend the 9.30 am Mass but there will be no novena prayer. Please keep our First Communicants and their families in your prayers as they prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.
Please remember that we, your priests, are here for you. If you or a loved one would like a visit from a priest, please contact the parish office.
Wishing you a blessed week.
