from Fr Satheesh
My Dear Parishioners,
This week we celebrate the feast of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). It is a celebration of the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. The feast invites us to give thanks for the great gift of the Eucharist, in which Catholics believe that Jesus is truly present, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, under the appearances of bread and wine. It is a special opportunity to reflect on the importance of the Holy Mass and Holy Communion in our lives.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus describes himself as the “living bread come down from heaven.” His words were difficult for many people to understand, just as they can challenge us today. Yet Jesus is teaching us something profound: he wants to share his very life with us.
Whenever we gather around the altar and receive the Eucharist, we are not simply remembering Jesus; we are entering into a living relationship with him. Jesus tells us, “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him.” The Eucharist is God’s gift of himself, nourishing us with strength, hope, and grace for our daily lives.
Just as ordinary food sustains our bodies, the Eucharist sustains our souls. It helps us to remain close to Christ and to become more like him in the way we love, forgive, and serve others. The more we allow Christ to dwell within us, the more his presence is reflected in our words and actions.
As we reflect on this Gospel, we might ask ourselves: Do I approach the Eucharist with faith and gratitude? Do I recognise the gift Jesus offers me each time I come to Mass? May we always hunger for the Bread of Life and allow Christ to transform us through this sacred gift, knowing that he alone leads us to eternal life.
As is our tradition on Corpus Christi Sunday, there will be a Eucharistic Procession and Benediction following the 10.00am Mass at OLGC. All parishioners are warmly invited to participate in this special celebration of our faith in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
This week we sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the Pastoral Works Appeal. We are deeply grateful for your generosity and support.
We also congratulate Carmel Smith, Fran van Schie, and Bruno Spedalieri on receiving Diocesan Awards, presented at the Diocese’s 40th Anniversary Dinner last Friday evening. These awards are a fitting recognition of their dedicated service, and we are delighted to celebrate this honour with them.
We look forward to our seniors gathering for the Biggest Morning Tea on Wednesday 24th June. This is a great opportunity to connect with others and celebrate the community we have. More details are in the bulletin.
On Saturday, 20 June, we will celebrate the Sacrament of First Holy Communion with our parish children. There will be three Communion Masses: 9.30am and 11.30am at OLGC, and 5.00pm at St Martin’s, Davidson. As a result, there will be no 9.15am morning Mass at OLGC on that day. Please keep our First Communicants and their families in your prayers as they prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.
On Friday, 12 June, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. We ask you to remember the OSH Congregation in your prayers as we celebrate our Patronal Feast Day.
Please remember that we, your priests, are here for you. If you or a loved one would like a visit from a priest, please contact the parish office.
Wishing you a blessed week.
