Dear Parishioners,
In this weekend’s Gospel, Jesus speaks to us about the importance of reconciliation, forgiveness and the care we should have for one another. When someone hurts us or does something wrong, our first reaction can often be to walk away, hold on to our hurt or speak about the person to others. Jesus offers us a different way. He encourages us to approach one another with honesty, respect and love, always seeking to heal rather than to divide.
The purpose of speaking to someone who has wronged us is not to prove that we are right or to win an argument. Rather, it is to “win back” our brother or sister. Jesus reminds us that every relationship is valuable and that we should make every effort to restore what has been broken.
This Gospel also reminds us that we do not live our faith alone. We are part of a community, called to support, encourage and pray for one another. Jesus promises us that whenever two or three gather in his name, he is present among them. This is a wonderful reminder that Christ is with us when we gather as families, friends and parish communities to pray, worship and care for one another.
May we have the courage to seek reconciliation when relationships are difficult, the humility to ask for forgiveness when we have caused hurt, and the generosity to forgive those who have hurt us. As we gather together in the name of Jesus, may we always strive to be a community where people experience understanding, healing, forgiveness and the love of Christ.
As we celebrate Father’s Day, we remember with gratitude all the fathers and father figures, who are with us today and those who have been an important part of our lives. We also remember and pray for fathers who have passed away and for those for whom this day may bring sadness, loss or difficult memories. Wishing all our fathers and father figures a very happy and blessed Father’s Day!
We also wish our parish pilgrims a fond farewell as they depart this week for their pilgrimage to Croatia. We are looking forward to this special journey and ask you to keep us in your prayers. As we travel, we will carry your prayers and intentions with us and remember our parish community throughout our pilgrimage. We look forward to returning home and sharing our experiences and memories with you.
Following the pilgrimage, I will be taking some additional leave and will return to the parish on 9 October. While I am away Fr Shiju and Fr Boby will attend to any pastoral needs of the parish. Feel free to contact the parish office if you need anything.
My hearty Congratulations to all the children those who have confirmed recently. My deep gratitude to Susanne Bragge our Sacramental Coordinator for preparing them for this Sacrament.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Paola Brannan, our OLGC School Principal, as she prepares to take up her new position as Principal of Eileen O’Connor Catholic College from Term 4. Paola has given more than 20 years of dedicated service to the OLGC community. We thank Paola for all that she has given to our community and wish her every blessing and success in her new role.
I am also pleased to announce that Cathy Gualtieri, who is currently the Principal of St Martin’s Catholic Primary School, will take on the role of Principal of OLGC Catholic Primary School from Term 4. Cathy will be Principal to both our Parish Catholic primary schools.
Please join me in thanking Paola for her many years of service and in wishing Paola and Cathy every blessing and best wishes as they begin their new positions.
