Dear Parishioners,
The readings this Sunday explain how we should practice true, dynamic Christian discipleship. The Gospel passage reminds us that Christian discipleship demands self-control (“Deny yourself”), the willingness to suffer (“take up your cross”), the readiness to follow Jesus by obeying his commandment of love, and the ongoing surrender of our whole being to God (“to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice to God” (Rom 12:1)
In this week’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that following Him is not always easy. Peter wanted to protect Jesus from suffering, but Jesus reminds him that God’s ways are often different from our own.
When Jesus calls us to “take up our cross and follow me”, he invites us to live with courage, faith and love, especially when life is difficult. Our crosses may be found in caring for others, forgiving someone, facing challenges with patience, or simply remaining faithful when we do not understand God’s plan.
Jesus reminds us that a truly meaningful life is not measured by success, possessions or comfort, but by the love we give and the way we serve others. When we place our lives in God’s hands and follow Jesus, even our struggles can become a path to deeper faith and new life.
Jesus reminds us that true life is not found in having everything we want or achieving worldly success. It is found in giving of ourselves in love. Every small act of kindness, generosity, forgiveness and service can become a way of carrying our cross and following Christ.
As we journey through the week, may we ask ourselves: Where is Jesus inviting me to put love before self-interest? Where might I need to trust God’s way rather than my own?
May we have the courage to take up our crosses each day, knowing that when we walk with Christ, we never walk alone.
Thank you for your prayers last week as our Clergy participated in the Clergy retreat. These retreats are always a great time of reflection and renewal.
This weekend and next, we have the opportunity to support the OSH Appeal, which provides much-needed care and assistance to the clergy and religious communities of the Oblates of the Sacred Heart in India. Your generosity helps support their ministry and enables them to continue serving their communities and bringing Christ’s love and compassion to those in need. We warmly encourage you to support this important appeal. Thank you for your continued generosity and for helping us live out the Gospel call to care for and support those most in need.
Please keep in your prayers the children who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next weekend, as they take this important step in their journey of faith. May the Holy Spirit guide, strengthen and bless each child as they grow in their relationship with Christ.
