Dear Parishioners,
This week we celebrate the special Gospel of the loaves and fishes. When Jesus sees the crowds waiting for him, his compassion moves him to set aside his own sorrow to care for those in need. He heals the sick and, later, feeds the hungry with just five loaves and two fish.
This Gospel reminds us that God's generosity is never limited by what we think we have. The disciples saw only scarcity, but Jesus saw an opportunity for God's abundance to be revealed. When the little they had was placed into Jesus' hands, it became more than enough for everyone, with twelve baskets left over.
We too can sometimes feel that we have little to offer, a little time, a little patience, a little faith, or limited resources. Yet Jesus asks us, as he asked the disciples, to bring what we have to him. When we offer our gifts with trust, he blesses them, multiplies them, and uses them to nourish others in ways we could never imagine.
As we gather around the Eucharistic table each week, we encounter the same Jesus who blessed, broke, and shared the bread. May we leave Mass inspired to be people of compassion, willing to share what we have and confident that God can accomplish extraordinary things through even the smallest acts of love.
As we reflect on the Gospel we pray, Loving God, thank you for the gift of your abundant love. Help us to trust you with the little we have and to share our gifts generously with those around us. Fill our hearts with compassion, open our eyes to the needs of others, and make us instruments of your peace and generosity. May we always recognise your presence in the breaking of the bread and in every act of kindness we offer. Amen
This week we extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to Fr Satheesh and his family. Fr Satheesh has travelled to India to be his family with the passing of his beloved uncle, R. K. Simon, who had been unwell. We hold Fr Satheesh and his family in our prayers during this time of grief, asking that God grant them comfort, strength, and the hope of the Resurrection. May R. K. Simon rest in the peace of Christ.
We look forward to celebrating our Parish Multicultural Celebration on Sunday, 16 August, following the 10:00am Mass at OLGC. This special event is a wonderful opportunity to come together, share our diverse cultures, and celebrate the richness of our parish community. If you would like to volunteer to prepare and share food from your cultural heritage, please contact the parish office.
