from The Parish Team
Dear Parishioners,
In this week’s Gospel, this passage from Luke challenges us to rethink what it means to follow Jesus. At first glance, talk of “fire” and “division” seems jarring especially when we're more accustomed to images of peace and unity. But reading it through the lens of discipleship reveals a deeper, more transformative message.
Jesus is not promoting conflict for its own sake. Rather, he’s warning us that genuine commitment to his message will inevitably bring tension, even in our closest relationships. The “fire” he speaks of is the refining presence of the Holy Spirit, burning away selfishness, complacency, and sin. This kind of inner transformation doesn’t come without discomfort. It calls us to change, and that change can unsettle those around us.
The “division” reflects the real-life implications of living a Gospel-centred life in a world that doesn’t always share the same values. It’s not about turning against others, but about recognizing that the path of discipleship may not always align with the expectations or beliefs of those we love.
Ultimately, this passage reminds us that following Christ is a bold and sometimes costly choice. It calls for courage, passion, and a willingness to be misunderstood. Yet it also promises a life of purpose, depth, and love, set ablaze by the fire of God’s Spirit.
This week, we hold in prayer all students currently undertaking & completing their HSC Trial exams. May God bless them with focus, strength, and calm as they complete their assessments and approach the end of their school journey.
We’re also pleased to announce that enrolments for our 2025/2026 Sacramental Program are now open. We warmly welcome families with children in Year 3 or above to take part in this important step in their faith journey. For more information, please visit our parish website.
Our parish community is alive with many ministries, each made possible by the generous commitment of our volunteers. We are truly grateful for the time, care, and heart they bring to their service. If you feel called to contribute or would like to explore how you can get involved, we would love to hear from you—please reach out to the parish office.
Wishing you all a blessed and joyful week ahead,
The Parish Team
