from Fr Satheesh

Dear Parishioners,

This week we celebrate the second Sunday of Advent. In the Gospel John the Baptist’s call, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand,” reminds us that God’s presence is not distant or abstract, it is near, ready to break into our lives if we make room for it. John’s message is strong, but it comes from a place of deep hope. He invites us to clear away what is unnecessary, to straighten the paths of our hearts, and to let our lives bear the good fruit of faith, compassion, and humility.

John also points us forward. He knows that his role is to prepare, not to finish the work. “The one who follows me is more powerful than I am,” he says, reminding us that Christ comes not only to cleanse but to transform, baptising us with the Holy Spirit and fire, with a love that purifies, strengthens, and renews.

As we listen to his words today, we’re encouraged not just to feel sorry for our failings, but to turn towards God with fresh

intention. Advent invites us to prepare, not with fear, but with trust, knowing that the One who comes after John brings the Holy Spirit, renewal, and light. May we be open, ready, and willing to welcome Christ more deeply into our lives.

On Monday, December 8, the Church will celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Solemnity fittingly occurs just after the second Sunday of Advent. Advent is a season which prepares us and constantly speaks to the coming birth of Jesus Christ. In this same way, the Immaculate Conception prepares the way for Jesus Christ.

As we prepare for Christmas we hope and pray that we are able to see the joy of Christmas in our hearts. If you would like to be involved in any of our Christmas Liturgies please contact our parish office. We would love to have as many people involved as possible.

Thank you all for your generosity in supporting the Pastoral Works Broken Bay Appeal. On the weekend of 13/14 December, we will hold the Vinnies Christmas Appeal.

The Diocesan Advent Reflection Booklets are at the church foyer for you to take home.

I encourage you to support our parish by joining in the various ministries of our parish and by assisting financially in whatever way you could. If you would like to be involved in any of our wonderful ministries, please contact the parish office. Have a wonderful week.
